The Accelerated Outpatient Treatment Program for Addiction is an advanced and cutting-edge way of treating addiction that is not commonly offered in the field of substance abuse treatment. Our treatment program is distinctive from others in that the therapy approach combines empirically validated treatment techniques into a state-of-the-art protocol designed to shorten treatment time and resolve the individual’s intra-psychic conflicts that drive substance abuse. Our treatment program emphasizes one-on-one sessions and offers an alternative to the standard outpatient treatment programs that emphasize group counseling. Although that treatment works for some, it can ignore much of the individual attention needed to treat the brains’ injurious patterns of operation that maintain the addiction. By comparison, our treatment is tailored to the individual by combining traditional talk therapy with three powerful accelerated cutting-edge treatment techniques, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) using the Feeling State Addiction Protocol (FSAP), DeTur (EMDR), and Hypnotherapy (Five-Path and Ego State Hypnosis). The addition of these three treatments shortens treatment time allowing clients to receive quality services at a far more affordable price than standard outpatient programs. The 38-hour program incorporates psychoeducation with identifying and resolving irrational thinking patterns, releasing stored emotions, identifying and removing secondary gain associated with relapsing, and resolving unresolved traumas.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is an evidenced based accelerated treatment method to deal with trauma and addiction. This technique uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) more commonly known as eye movements to activate and integrate right and left hemispheres of the brain. This reduces the vividness of traumatic and stressful events, memories, and emotions so that they are more manageable and can be “mentally metabolized”. EMDR allows the brain to think about disturbing memories or events in a different way that is rational and realistic. It allows the client to separate from the trauma providing him/her with cognitive, emotional, and behavioral balance. In addition to helping clients with trauma, EMDR can be used to “unstick” the fixation between feelings associated with addiction and the addictive behavior. Once the fixation is broken, cravings and desires to engage in the addictive behavior are managed. Instead of working towards neutralizing the potency of the addictive behavior, traditional substance abuse treatment programs often promote avoidance methods for dealing with these fixations and/or may not address them at all. The Feeling State Addiction Protocol (FSAP) and DeTur using EMDR specifically works to neutralize the client’s fixations so that they can remain clean and sober.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is utilized to enable the client to achieve a state of mental, physical, and emotional relaxation so that he or she can tap into the storehouse of information that lies in the subconscious mind. Working with the subconscious allows treatment to focus on building up resources (e.g., self-esteem, confidence, removal of negative beliefs) that are a vital part in remaining clean and sober. In therapy, we go well beyond direct-suggest hypnosis and tradition treatment methods. Hypnotherapy allows us to revisit moments from the past that can relieve and heal emotional wounds. Additionally through hypnotherapy, hidden and unknown motivations for addiction can be revealed and then specifically targeted for elimination.
